Bobcat Nation

Visit San Marcos

One of the best small cities around us that you can visit when you stay, besides Gruene, is San Marcos, Texas. This little college town, often referred to as Bobcat Nation, is just a short hour away and has a lot more to offer than just an education at Texas State University (formerly known as Southwest Texas State.) While the college campus is a beautiful one, residents often enjoy the extra-curricular activities offered.

The Square is a smaller version of Austin’s famous 6th Street. There are some great little bars in this area that are always offering some cheap drinks and some great Texas Country tunes. If you love dancing, this is the place to go. You can boot-scootin-boogie until midnight, when they stop severing. There are also quite a few specialty shops in the square that you can visit if bar hopping isn’t your thing. The Square is super easy to navigate and clean, something the town boasts over Austin’s 6th Street.

Now if you want a true, delicious, mouthwatering Texas burger, the Taproom is where you want to stop for lunch. They offer 102 beers on tap, which doesn’t hurt to add to your burger, that’s for sure. Their burger offerings change occasionally, but right now, they’re offering our favorite Guacamole Queso Burger. Locals also enjoy spicing up their week with the Hell Burger. If someone in your group doesn’t like burgers, that’s okay too! They offer all kinds of Texas favorites, like chicken strips, ribs, and fish & chips. You’ll be so glad you tried this place out. It might even ruin you for life on other burger places.

San Marcos is widely known for its outlet mall. Texans come from all over to shop at the high end stores and save. The San Marcos Premium Outlets are home to stores such as A’Gaci, Banana Republic, Bare Minerals, Coach, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, and Saks Fifth Avenue, to name a few. Not only do they offer great outlet prices already, but they are constantly having sales to help save people even more money. The mall is often referred to as the “Best Little Outlet in Texas.” With the holiday season approaching, this is the perfect place to go and get high end gifts for low end prices. Everyone will think you spent a fortune on them, and you’ll know you actually saved!

Dick’s Classic Garage is a nice little stop that everyone will enjoy. This classic car showroom is home to several oldies but goodies. This garage is a part of the Central Texas Museum of Automotive History founded in 1980. They are non-profit organization whose goal is to provide an educational and entertaining experience for residents and guests alike. The garage showcases vehicles and memorabilia from the 1900’s through the rockin 1950’s. See what automobiles were like back then and compare them to the technologically advanced transportation devices we have today.
